Creating the conditions for deep learning.

At Frameshift, I help students move beyond memorization and develop a genuine understanding of the material.

ABOUT FRAMESHIFT

New results require a new approach.

Today, information is everywhere. A student’s greatest advantage is not simply knowing the answers, but understanding why things work and how to apply knowledge in unfamiliar situations.

At Frameshift, I focus on building deep subject mastery and strong, transferable learning habits. With personalized instruction, problem-solving frameworks, and an emphasis on critical thinking, students become more capable, confident, and independent learners.

WHY FRAMESHIFT

The principles that lead to lasting success.

True understanding comes from addressing the underlying source of confusion rather than spot-correcting symptoms. With stronger foundations in place, students are better equipped to learn and apply advanced concepts.

Strengthen the foundations.

Success isn't just about what you know, it's about how you think. I teach my students how to navigate unfamiliar concepts, use their mistakes as insight, and work through challenges independently.

Approach unfamiliar problems with confidence.

Grades and test scores matter, but academics is more than a means to an end. It’s my goal to help students develop their capacity to learn, think, and approach new material with confidence.

Build expertise that lasts.

Meet Your Instructor:

Dr. Lauren Boulay

Learn from an MD-trained tutor who understands the demands of rigorous learning.

Hi, it’s Lauren.

I know what it’s like to stare at a difficult problem with no idea where to start. I’ve been there—as a high school student, an undergraduate, a medical student, and a surgical resident.

While the material never got easier, navigating the complexity did. Over time, I developed frameworks that helped me learn more deeply and approach new problems with confidence.

That shift changed the way I learned, and ultimately, the way I teach.

Rather than simply providing answers, I help students build their own frameworks. These become the scaffolding for independent problem solving; repeatable structures they can rely on when faced with an unfamiliar problem.

The goal is to equip students with the ability to learn, tackle difficult material, and approach new challenges independently: skills that will serve them not just for this semester or the next exam, but throughout their lives.

FAQs

Is a specific test score possible?

I will always be honest with you about what’s possible. While I can’t guarantee specific scores or grades, together we can lay the foundations, apply the proper strategies, and put in the work necessary to do your best in any exam or class.

When should we begin working together?

2

Sooner is always better. If you know a certain subject, class, or test will pose a challenge for you, it’s better to begin working together before you reach a sticking point. If you’re preparing for a standardized test like the SAT or ACT, the best results occur when we begin 2-4 months before the first official exam.

That said, it’s never too late to get help. There is always the opportunity for improvement.

How would you describe your teaching style?

3

My teaching style is collaborative, interactive, and highly individualized. Every session is thoughtfully planned, then adapted in real time based on your understanding; we’ll move quickly where concepts are solid, shift approach when the first explanation doesn’t land, or slow down wherever there’s a gap.

Through thoughtful questions, I encourage students to think aloud, explain their reasoning, and ask every question that comes to mind. All questions are good questions because they reveal how you're thinking and help us uncover misconceptions before they become obstacles.

I have high expectations, but I'll never leave you to struggle alone. I expect students to come prepared, stay engaged, and put in the work between sessions. In return, I provide the guidance, structure, and support to help them become confident, independent learners.
